TREASURE ISLAND TOUR This Saturday, as part of Yerba Buena Center's "Ground Scores" exhibit, BARGE (the Bay Area Research Group in Enviro-aesthetics) will lead a (de)tour of Treasure Island, as part of its "Buried Treasure Island" installation currently on view at YBCA. How do we encounter a man-made island and former military base in the middle of the bay, and how might we envision other ways of seeing in the midst of hazardous waste areas, boarded-up buildings, and other uncanny sites and sights? The tour will explore how we view a landscape's past, present, and possible futures, when many of its features are either destroyed, invisible, or strangely, hidden in plain sight. Saturday, October 11, 12-4pm Tour shuttle departs from (& returns to) Yerba Buena Center - meet in lobby. There will be some walking, so wear comfortable shoes. It can be quite cold & windy on the island, so bring layers. In case of rain, some outdoor activities may be curtailed but the tour will go on! (De)tourists are encouraged to bring cameras (and/or their imaginations) for counter-postcard opportunities.for more information on BARGE and the Buried Treasure Island project, please visit the BTI page.
